Getting Back In Shape

Now doesn't that title sound crazy for a pregnant woman.  But I am looking forward to getting back into shape somewhat.  No I'm not looking to be a lean, mean fighting machine.  I just want to feel healthy with my pregnancy.  I plan to walk Athena on a more regular basis and do some light weights at home. And of course I would love to do yoga again.  After working out so much to lose my double cheeseburger/taco bell weight and relieve stress it feels strange not to be going to the gym on a regular basis.  I haven't been able to work out since almost late January.  I started my job in February and standing on your feet for 40 plus hours pretty much kills all desire to go to the gym.  Then a month later we started our treatments and you are not allowed to work out at all while doing them.  May arrived and I was pregnant. Hoping to be a fit soon to be mom at the gym, I was told at first no working out for the first 10 weeks or so of the pregnancy. Due to all the hormones my ovaries were still huge and we didn't want to cause any issues. Then to complicate that at one of my early ultra sounds they found blood on or in the uterus that they were concerned about.  So definitely no working out with that as it can cause miscarriage.  So it wasn't till our big ultra sound at 20 weeks that I finally got the okay to do some light exercises since the blood was finally gone.  Now I would have been happy to head back to the gym but now add being 5 months pregnant to the standing on the feet for 40 hours a week and there was just no way that was happening.

It is kind of funny telling people that I want to start working out a little more. They look at me like I am crazy.  Their "advice" is "now is the time to gain as much weight as you want because you are pregnant. You should eat as much or anything you want." Um, sorry I don't live by that motto. While I can eat a lot. I polished off a 1/2 of a large pizza some bread sticks and a salad the other day. (YIKES) That is not how I normally eat and with the baby growing like crazy these last few months I know my stomach space is going to get quite cramped.  We'll see how this all goes.

Big Fat Fail!

So, I failed my glucose test and not by a little by a lot!  The PA just sat and stared at me, I assume pondering why I failed.  My levels were over 240 and she said for someone as tiny as me that was crazy.  She even went over everything I had eaten in the last 24 hours, so I get to spend my next day off doing the lovely 3 hour test. Oh, joy.  During the entire appointment K is mean mugging me and muttering under his breath that maybe I should lay off the sugary cereals, which I haven't eaten in a while.  So then the PA says I'm really low on iron so we are putting you on an iron pill.  Then the food police arrived aka K.  He began asking what I should be/shouldn't be eating how we can change all this through diet and proper nutrition.  Now don't get me wrong, I splurge on a treat here and there but overall I eat really healthy.  I get all my fruits and veggies everyday, even more so now that I am pregnant.  While I love my husband dearly and he does always make sure I have food to eat, having someone watch everything I eat is going to drive me bonkers. Let alone he was saying he may figure out a good beet recipe since they are high in iron and might make some liver pate.  We'll see how long that lasts of me eating it. Neither of those sound good at all! So say a prayer that I pass on Wednesday.

Where have I been?

Working! Like crazy. I was supposed to go part time in August, then September, then it was moved to October. Having a new manager really changes things in a small store.  I swear the schedule has not made sense or been right since July before he started doing it.  After a month of frustration of not going part time, never getting a day off that I want so I could see K, getting yelled at for problems I was not a part of, I was done.  Yesterday I gave my two week notice.  It was very scary to do.  I think I've only done it three times in my entire life. I think I am also scared about staying home full time and the whole change in the income aspect. I guess these next few months leading up to January will give me time to adjust.  And I do really look forward to enjoying my last few months of pregnancy and the holidays.  I don't know if I will ever get to experience this again and I would rather not be the overworked, tired, crabby wife.

On a different note we just returned from our annual anniversary trip to Colorado.  It was fun but very hard to go to all my favorite breweries and not be able to drink.  A funny aspect of the trip was stopping at New Belgium Brewery, they have an awesome seltzer water on tap that is flavored with apples and cranberry, very yummy. While drinking that and being pregnant I got 2 dirty looks from an old couple and a shake of the head in dismay.  I found it amusing especially since the seltzer is clear and in no way resembles even the lightest beer on the market.  We also attended the Great American Beer Festival for a 3rd time.  I wore my I Miss Beer shirt and had my picture taken with so many people I lost count. It was quite entertaining. My parents flew in for 2 days so my dad could be K's drinking partner for the day.  By the end they both said they were beered out.  I was shocked at that statement.  We finished up the trip with the usual Broncos game.  It was the Broncos vs the Seahawks and by far this was the hottest game we have ever attended. 94+ degrees outside.  Plus we were high up, in direct sun and there was very little breeze.  Lets just say I was one hot pregnant woman by the end. But they won and that is all that matters.

Well I am off to drink my sugar water for the 1 hour glucose test. Should be fun!

It's A Girl!

After multiple reschedules of our appointment we finally had the big ultra sound and it's a Girl!  We couldn't be more excited, not that we really cared what sex the baby was.  I think the most fun part has been the shopping, picking out little outfits for her to wear and bows to match.  I think I will be officially giving up my closet in her room.

So we have gone from having a boy to a girl. It was so strange to pack up all the cute little boy outfits (and there were a lot).  For some reason I am not ready to part with them yet.  They are so cute and many brand new I feel like I should keep them in case we have a boy next. The dresser went from stuffed full to completely empty minus a few gender neutral sleepers and onesies. Mom and I made sure to hit all the sales while out shopping yesterday and the baby now has about 10 new outfits for next summer.  Amazing what you can find on clearance. I am anxious to shop our consignment sale in the spring to really get some good deals.

Now begins the great debate of picking a name......

Half Way There

Tomorrow, I will officially be 20 weeks. Half way to my due date. So weird to think about that.  Right now we are in the midst of our fall consignment sale. The sale is going fantastically and we have been working like crazy. I can't say I really miss my other job and suddenly the thought of quiting it sooner is becoming quite the idea.  The idea of being a stay at home mom is becoming more and more appealing.  We should be finding out the sex very soon. I obviously don't care what we have, I just want a healthy baby.  Everyone seems to think it is a girl. My mom, a girlfriend and myself all think boy and K said he has no clue.  We'll see what the little one reveals. I am anxious for the ultra sound. I feel like I'm going through with drawls after having so many in the beginning then nothing for the last 6 weeks. I've also felt the baby kicking. I only feel kicks in the middle and on my right side which from prior pictures is right where it had its legs sticking straight out at.  Occasionally I also feel a nice hard push on my stomach so we'll see if the baby has flipped around or is still lounging in its normal spot.

Belly vs Boobs!

The Belly has taken the lead.  For a while there it was definitely a race on which one(s) was getting the biggest the fastest. I really can't believe I'll be 18 weeks on Friday.  Last week we broke our silence and told the rest of our friends our news, most people were pretty surprised.

My mom is coming up on Wednesday to help with the sale and so we can start the registry. Should be interesting and go a little more smoothly than last time.  We were both a little BRU overwhelmed the first time around. Mainly it is there store layout that drives me bonkers. I really don't need tons of stuff since our nursery is all done and we have most of our big items from the adoption. Strange to be pregnant and not have to plan and think of all those things but also very nice that there is no stress in that. Hard to believe we've been planning for this for 5.5 years.

This is a 16 week belly photo!

Morning of May 6th

Obviously the night before was Cinco De Mayo. It is tradition in our household to visit our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner and drinks but unfortunately both K and I had to work late. The next morning May 6th I had to be at work by 8:30 and had to swing by the doctors office for a blood draw. I will say I think that is one of the best nights of sleep I have gotten, I said a prayer and thanked God for the journey he had taken us on and that no matter what the results would be the next day we would be fine with them because we knew he had a plan for us and off to sleep I went.

The next morning was a little crazy, K had training out at the range he had to be at by 7:30 and I had to be at the doctors office. So off we headed in our separate directions. I walked into the office and all the staff asked me if I had cheated and took a test.  It actually hadn't even crossed my mind (mainly because the nurse at the hospital said one probably wouldn't show a positive).  So they got all excited and wanted me to give a urine sample.  Think I could do that?  All they needed was 4 drops but I had emptied my bladder right before I came to the office. No go there. So we settled for the blood draw and they said they would call later. I headed into work. No one at work knew what was going on.  So about mid morning I saw a call pop up from my doctors office on my phone, I was with a customer so I ignored it.  I later listened to the message, it was from one of the nurses saying they had my results and to call back in.  I still have a few hours left of my shift and I didn't think I wanted to know the results at work. No real private areas to talk.  So I waited to call them back.  In the mean time I had also scheduled my brand new washer and dryer to be delivered that day.  They weren't supposed to come till after 4pm when I got off work.  Well, go figure they called about 2 and said they were on their way.  I left work early and headed home. Figuring after they dropped the washer and dryer off I would call the office to find out the results. I was driving down 72nd street at had just passed Mercy Rd and was approaching Pacific when my phone rang again. Doctors office.  I took a deep breath and answered. It was my favorite nurse (mainly because she looks and sounds just like one of my cousins).  She laughed in the phone and asked if I was avoiding her, I admitted I was avoiding her call because I had been at work and was afraid of the news to which she replied didn't you know, if I call it's good news and if the doctor calls its bad news.  I was like what do mean?  Then she said the words we had been waiting to hear for 5+ years.  You are pregnant.  I think the rest of the conversation went like this....
Me: "WHAT? OMG! Seriously?"
Nurse: "YES! Your numbers look great, you will need to go to the hospital for more blood work on Saturday."
Me: "I'm really pregnant?"
Nurse: "YES! We are so happy for you, congratulations!"
Me: (Happy tears started here), "I really can't believe it, thank you so much, tell Dr. D thank you."
Nurse: "Your welcome".

Then I hung up the phone and drove home in complete shock.  I remember getting home and standing in the middle of my kitchen in amazement, holding my stomach and thinking I'm gonna have a baby and telling Athena she was going to be a big sister.  I snapped out of my trance and remembered NFM was on their way and I had to go move the old washer and dryer. So I hurried and did that as they pulled up a few minutes later.  In the meantime my phone rang with my mom calling. I ignored the call, I knew I wouldn't be able to keep it a secret if I spoke to her and I had to tell K first. Unfortunately he was still at the range so I couldn't reach him so I waited. I remember going and sitting in the nursery and thinking that in 9 months I would finally get to use it since it is decorated and ready to go. It's one of my favorite rooms in our house.

K arrived home a few hours later and I shared the news with him.  I don't think he believed it at first, so I told him the entire story then of course had to show him the new washer and dryer.  While he showered I called my parents and told them. They were driving in OKC and actually pulled over to hear the news.  They were overjoyed. After that we hopped in the car and headed to K's parents house.  They were just as shocked and excited.  So that night we went our for our belated Cinco De Mayo Dinner/Celebration dinner.

I had my next blood test on Saturday and everything looked great. Numbers were fantastic. The doctors office called and scheduled my next appt and from here our pregnancy journey began.  Only about 4 people new about all of the procedures we had just completed.  We are very private people and if they didn't work didn't want to answer to all of the disappointment that sometimes results in a failed attempt.  One friend who knew it was going to happen but not the time frame of procedures brought me some chocolate covered strawberries

2 people I enjoyed telling the most was my grandmother and my brother. My gramma was at my parents so I purposely called them and asked for her, told her over the phone the news and she was so shocked she said a few words to me then handed the phone to my mom.  Then in the background I could hear her telling my dad over and over again, I can't believe it, really? I still laugh thinking about it.  I called my brother who lives in Washington and asked him if he had any plans for January or February.  He was like no why?  To which I replied well you are gonna be an uncle and I would love for you to come meet your niece or nephew. Stunned silence for a minute until he said WHAT? Are you serious?  Yes, I am.  I think he got even more excited when he found what the due date might be. He doesn't have children and is so excited to be an uncle, he is already looking for a fishing pole for the baby and planning trips. Oh, what a spoiled child I will have from uncles and grandparents.

We decided to only tell a few family members and our best friends KC & JC then keep quite. We wanted everything to go smoothly since we had never been down this path before.
